Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report early analysis suggest the substance was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.

An important representative said the incident made him speechless and required to be solved quickly.

"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
